Hello! My name is Parth Tripathi, and I am a senior (class of 2025) in Carrollton, Texas, attending Hebron High School.
My curiosity about the human body began when my grandfather had Alzheimer's disease, a progressive disease that interferes with memory and other mental functions. However, it wasn’t the disease itself that interested me, but the fact that no doctor, as experienced and skillful as they may have been, was able to solve the problem. In my mind, the same question kept appearing: “The answer has to be somewhere inside, right?”
After that experience and going to several appointments with my grandfather, I fell in love with human anatomy and the ways by which things can go wrong. As a result, I set my dreams on becoming a doctor and someone that is able to correctly treat patients such as my grandfather. However, after learning more about the medical process itself, including the rigorous years involved in medical school and residency, I felt that there was a lack of transparency. Future healthcare professionals, including myself, simply saw the “Accepted into DREAM Medical School” and “Stanford Match Day!” videos on the Internet, but not the struggle that occurs within and how stressful the process can be.
As a result, I wanted to create “ A Lens Into Medicine”, a monthly podcast where I bring on students in undergraduate/medical school, current residents going through residency, and healthcare professionals that have been through the process, and ask them about their true experiences in the education process, and blog, where I incorporate data and research into similar topics—both of which may help many confused high school students that are interested in medicine or nursing. Overall, I wish to bring transparency by uncovering the raw details of healthcare education to provide a realistic glimpse into the future–all in an effort to help thousands of high schoolers that are in the same boat I was in.
